Teams, Channels, and Chats

Audience: Faculty and Staff

  • A team is a group with a shared purpose, like a department or committee.
  • A channel is a topic space inside a team, with its own posts, files, and meetings. Every team starts with a General channel.
  • A chat is a private conversation with one person or a small group.
  • Activity collects your mentions, replies, and missed calls. Start your day there.
  • Tabs at the top of a channel pin files, apps, or websites the group uses often.

Rule of thumb: use chat for quick questions and channels for work the whole group should see and keep. Type @ and a name to make sure someone sees your post.
