Teams Meeting Recordings: Where They Go and How to Keep Them

Audience: Faculty and Staff

Teams meeting recordings save to the organizer’s OneDrive (or to the team’s SharePoint site for channel meetings) and appear in the meeting chat a few minutes after the meeting ends. Teams recordings can expire, so download anything you want to keep.

To start recording

In the meeting, select More > Record and transcribe > Start recording. Everyone sees a recording notice; say it out loud too.

To keep a recording

  • Faculty: open the recording, select Download, and upload the file to Canvas Studio. Every faculty member has a Studio account. Studio adds captions, keeps the video inside your course, and has no time limit.
  • Staff: download the recording and save it to your department team’s Files so it stays with the department.

Recordings that include students are student records. Share them only inside Canvas, never in a Teams channel or a public link.
