Setting up a free, non-SXU e-mail address

Audience: Students, Faculty & Staff

It is beneficial to have an e-mail address outside of your SXU account. One reason you may need a non-SXU e-mail address is to enroll in the university's PWReset System. Our netID password management system will ask you to enter a non-SXU e-mail address in order to confirm your identity before you are able to reset your netID account password. We recommend using e-mail providers Gmail or Yahoo! Mail, but you may use any provider of your choice (ProtonMail, AOL, iCloud, etc).

To create a Gmail account:

  1. Go to the main Gmail page
  2. Click Create an account in the top right corner.
  3. Enter your name.
  4. In the "Username" field, enter a username.
  5. Enter and confirm your password.
  6. Click Next.
    • Optional: Add and verify a phone number for your account.
  7. Click Next.

To create a Yahoo! mail account:

  1. Go to the Sign up page.
  2. Enter your info in the required fields: name, username, password, mobile number, birthday.
  3. Click Continue and follow the onscreen prompts to verify your mobile phone number.
