Password reset FAQ

The Saint Xavier University Information Technology Department provides an effective and efficient information technology environment by continuously improving the quality of technical services to enhance teaching and learning and to support University administrative functions.

Based on feedback gathered from our ticket system, and in alignment with our mission, Information Technology is excited to announce our new password reset system, PWReset.
Located at pwreset.sxu.edu, PWReset is an easy-to-use, secure way to quickly reset your netID password. A step by step on how to use the new system is provided here

The key benefits of PWReset are:
• One time enrollment (sets up in less than 2 minutes)
• No security questions! (No need to remember which car your mother owned in 1970)
• Easy, confidential ID confirmation: Your cell phone number, and a non-sxu email address.
• One step password reset option via iOS or Android app on your phone.
• No need to call/email/visit the Hub to have a representative reset your password for you.

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions.
If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to the Hub at (773) 298-4357.

RESET YOUR PASSWORD, IF YOU WISH
Once you’ve enrolled, you can continue on and reset your password immediately. If you are not being prompted to change your password, you DO NOT HAVE TO right now. Feel free
to keep your current password until it expires.

PWRESET IS REPLACING THAT SYSTEM
You have a choice of resetting your password through PWReset, or by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Delete on your campus computer and resetting the password manually. mypassword.sxu.edu will be discontinued and shut off in the near future.

CREATE A FREE EMAIL ACCOUNT
Free email accounts are easily acquired at gmail.com, yahoo.com, outlook.live.com and others. If you have any questions about how to sign up, check out this article in our Knowledge Base.

CREATE A FREE “GOOGLE VOICE FOR PERSONAL USE” ACCOUNT
Google Voice is a free product that gives you a phone number you can use on your computer. By setting up a Google Voice account, you can receive the confirmation text needed to enroll with PWReset. If you do not have either a cell or non-sxu email, it might be wise to set up a gmail email, as it will provide you the account you need to set up Google Voice for personal use. If you have any questions about how to set up Google Voice, check out their instructions here.

CREATE A MEMORABLE, SECURE PASSWORD
Your new password must have at least 8 characters (mix of lower/uppercase) and include a number and a special character (~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;”’<>,.?/).
Remember, your new password cannot match your username or your previous 24 passwords.

TO AVOID LOCK-OUTS, UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD ON ALL ACCOUNTS AND NETWORKS
Avoid getting locked out of your SXU account by entering your new password in the Wi-Fi/Network settings of your device next time you are on campus. We have step-by-step instructions on how to update your Network password here. You will also need to update the password for any browsers and e-mail apps you are logged into in order to continue receiving updated information and e-mails to your device.
